Abstract

The present study aims to explore the impact of the United States in the India-Pakistan relation during the Trump regime and will focus on the first Trump administration (2017-2021) and the second Trump administration (2025- present). The study examines U.S. foreign policy goals, priorities, and diplomatic interactions with South Asia and how these can impact the region. It discusses the developments in U.S.-India strategic cooperation, relationship with Pakistan, counterterrorism measures, and Indo Pacific strategy, and their impact on the balance of relations between India and Pakistan. The study suggests that the strategic interests, power competition and national security goals were the main drivers of U.S. policy under both Trump administrations, not an equal policy stance. The findings indicate that although the United States continued to be an important external player in South Asia, it still had a limited influence over South Asian relations between India and Pakistan.
